Lisa Sánchez’s slogan, “Bringing Everyone to the Table,” reflects a lifetime of work breaking barriers and building bridges. As the first Afro-Latina elected to the Boise City Council, Lisa used her seat to connect City Hall to the diverse communities it serves. From her early career as a bilingual paralegal and civil rights investigator to her leadership as Council President Pro Tem—the first woman of color to hold that role—Lisa has centered inclusion, equity, and collaboration in everything she does. She’s championed renter protections, led a record-breaking Census outreach effort, and launched Boise’s first strategic plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Lisa consistently creates space for voices historically left out of the conversation. Her slogan isn’t just a phrase—it’s a promise rooted in her lived experience, her mother’s example of finding “the third way,” and her belief that Boise is strongest when everyone has a seat at the table.

Champion for Renters – Authored and passed Boise’s Rental Application Fee Ordinance to protect tenants from unfair fees and protected it from being overturned in 2021 and 2022. But in April 2024, after Lisa was forced from City Council, the Idaho Governor and Legislature overturned these protections with House Bill 545—leaving thousands of Boise renters vulnerable again. Lisa seeks to return to City Hall to resume the fight for fair, affordable housing policies that put Boise’s most vulnerable residents first.
Leader in Equity & Inclusion – Created Boise’s first Strategic Plan for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; instrumental in naming Mariposa Park, Boise’s first park with a Spanish name.
Inclusive Community Builder – Co-chaired Boise’s 2020 Census outreach, achieving the second highest self-response rates in the country and bringing millions in federal dollars to Boise / Invited the Shoshone-Paiute Tribe to perform at her swearing-in
When Lisa Sánchez was first elected to the Boise City Council in 2017, all council seats were “at large” and council members represented the entire city rather than specific neighborhoods. That changed in 2020, when the Idaho Legislature passed HB413 requiring cities with more than 100,000 residents to elect council members by district. In 2021, under this new system, Lisa successfully ran for the newly created District 3, which included Northwest Boise, Pierce Park, Collister, Quail Ridge, Veterans Park, Sunset, the North End, Central Foothills, Highlands, and Somerset. In 2022, after the Boise Districting Commission redrew boundaries, much of this area was reclassified as District 6 (the area in dark purple), the seat Lisa is running for today.
